Cleveland Metroparks Zoo mourns loss of giraffe

Posted

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is morning the loss of one of its giraffes.

Travis passed away Friday "due to an acute and untreatable urinary condition."

The giraffe was born at the San Diego Zoo in 2006 and came to Cleveland in 2008.

Several zoo-goers left sympathies on the zoo's Facebook page following the announcement.

"I'm just heartbroken over Travis' passing, so I can't even imagine how his keepers feel," wrote Monica Wesolowski. "I always loved hearing their Travis stories.....he was such a lovable troublemaker. I love all the giraffes, but Travis was special. I fell madly in love with him from the beginning. When I was at the zoo last Tuesday, he wasn't in the yard, so I spent some time with him at the viewing glass.....just Travis and me. RIP, sweet boy. You are already so very missed."
