Cleveland emergency crews had to use the jaws of life to remove a police patrolman from his mangled car on the east side early Friday.
The officer's car slipped on the icy road, crashing into a tree at East 71st Street and Lawnview Avenue just before 3 a.m.
The damage to the car was so severe that the officer was wedged inside.
Crews were able to remove the door and pry the officer out.
But East 71st Street was so icy that another officer slipped while walking on the road, injuring his leg.
The officer involved in the wreck was talking and alert when he was pulled from the car but he did sustain lower body injuries. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment.
A commanding officer at the scene said the officer has been on the force for about 20 years. He is also a member of Mayor Frank Jackson's detail.
