The Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating a significant car crash from Jan. 28.

Police said the crash occurred around 8 p.m. It involved a 2001 Chevy Malibu driven by 49-year-old Anthony M. Garrett, a 1998 Dodge Durango operated by 34-year-old Kiara S. Stanley, and a 2012 Dodge Avenger driven by 36-year-old Revaughn R. Averyheart.

Garrett's car was stopped at a red light on Miles Avenue Westbound in the center lane at East 116th Street intersection, police reported. Stanley's car was stopped at a red light going westbound on Miles in the curb lane at the East 116th Street intersection.

Averyheart's car was speeding northbound on East 116th Street. Averyheart's car was out of control, went off the road, and hit a concrete trash receptacle before continuing north, hitting Garrett's car and causing it to strike Stanley's car.

Averyheart was ejected from the car onto the roadway, sustaining serious injuries. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in critical condition and was taken into surgery, police said.

Police said the other drivers received minor injuries.
