CLEVELAND — During Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s daily press conference Saturday, a special 100th birthday recognition was held for a Cleveland resident.

Louise Williams turned 100 years old but couldn’t celebrate in the typical fashion due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To make her day special, members of her community got together to celebrate while practicing social distancing—and DeWine gave Williams a special shout out for it on Saturday.

During the birthday celebration, Cleveland police and fire crews organized and joined in a parade down Williams' street with their lights on and sang "Happy Birthday" to her over the fire truck's intercom system.

Neighbors, friends and family came out, distanced between household groups, and helped to make Williams’ milestone birthday into something special, even in a difficult time.

The heartwarming video was sent to DeWine by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson.
