Partial opening of new innerbelt bridge causes confusion for morning rush hour commuters

ODOT held a grand opening for the Innerbelt Bridge Saturday, but there is still some work to do.

It seems some drivers didn't know the bridge would only be partially open.

Interstate 90 east from the west side and Interstate 71 north are both still one lane coming into the inbound Innerbelt bridge.

By the end of October, both I-90 east and I-71 north will have two lanes coming into town making for a smoother rush hour.

Drivers also discovered Monday morning, the bridge opens to five lanes then goes down to three and finally gets squeezed to two lanes.

But ODOT says all five lanes on each bridge will open in both directions in late October.

If you don't usually use the Innerbelt and wonder what all the concern is about, 140,000 vehicles use the bridges every day.
