Police are investigating a homicide after a restaurant employee was fatally stabbed at Rally's, 14110 Kinsman Road, around 4:30 a.m.

Authorities said the 45-year-old victim and another 22-year-old employee were working in the store overnight when the younger employee left the building but returned a short time later having forgotten something in the store.

When the younger employee was let into the building by the victim, two suspects rushed the workers and fought their way into the store, police said.

According to authorities, one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. The two men ordered the employees to open the safe and lay down on the ground. The 45-year-old fought back against the men and one of the suspects grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the employee in the head and chest, fatally wounding him, police said.

The younger employee was not injured in the incident.

The would-be robbers were unable to open the safe and fled on foot in an unknown direction, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Cleveland police at 216-623-5464.
