Pothole creates chain-reaction problems

Posted

Potholes damaging your car? You’re not alone. In fact, we found one woman who’s going through all kinds of problems with a pothole.

“I mean it’s terrible. This is a really bad one. It’s been here a long time,” said Jessica who didn’t want us to use her last name. She’s from Cleveland and she was driving on East 140th Street near Route 2 when she slammed into one monster of a pothole. “If this gets deeper, it’s going to be the size of a sewer in a couple of years,” she told us.

Jessica had to replace a tire on her brand new car which cost her $250. But the problems don’t stop there. “I have a bigger issue with my bumper now that is slightly hanging because of this situation because I had to have it towed because of a pothole.” She’s now suing the tow company for damaging her car. That’s a $1,700 repair.

We drove around and found more issues along East 140th Street and on nearby East 131st Street. I brought those concerns to Dan Ball from the Cleveland Mayor’s Office.  He told us he’s putting those streets into the street repair system.  “We’ll get some cold patch to that location as soon as possible,” said Ball.

He also told us 2-4 pothole filling crews are addressing potholes now throughout the city but there’s a bigger plan on the horizon. “We will be releasing a comprehensive Division of Streets repair plan,” said Ball and he estimated it would be out in March.

In the meantime, drivers suffering damage from potholes are just beside themselves.  “It’s very frustrating and a lot of other people are also frustrated,” said Jessica.
