A man trying to evade police after an attempted break in ended up taking off in a police cruiser before crashing it in Shaker Heights Thursday.

It all started when Shaker Heights police received a call that the man was trying to break into a local school.

The man never got inside and, when officers showed up, he was found hiding under a car in the parking lot of the school.

The suspect took off running and led officers to the Becket and Hampton neighborhood.

Isaiah Day was working in the yard when the man ran by with police right behind him. Day watched the whole thing unfold and told newsnet5.com that it was like a scene from a video game.

He attempted to get in a neighbor's car, Day said.

"He ran behind the car, I guess he was trying to hot wire the car, as a get away."

When that didn't work, he found his way inside of a Shaker Heights police cruiser.

"It was like grand theft auto! I never seen somebody get into a cop car and take off," Day said.

The man didn't make it far. Shaker Heights police said he ended up crashing into three police vehicles at the end of the block.

One officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect is now in custody.
