Video, report released from RTA driver scuffle

Posted

More information has surfaced following an altercation between an RTA bus driver and a homeless man last week.

The Greater Cleveland RTA released video of the Jan. 13 incident Tuesday. According to a written report, the driver and the man were the only people on the bus when the man took schedules from a rack and began littering the floor with them.

The driver asked the man to pick the schedules up and a scuffle ensued, the RTA said.

The Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless reported that the driver beat the passenger—a homeless man—with his fists and a metal object during the scuffle.

The incident has been reported to the prosecutor's office and the driver, a 28-year veteran, was placed on suspension pending the outcome of an internal investigation, the RTA said.

The man was taken to Lutheran Hospital with minor injuries and then connected with a homelessness advocacy organization.

Following the altercation, the coalition is demanding that drivers receive sensitivity training.
