Madison Village votes to keep police department

Madison Village council members voted Monday to keep its police department.

The issue had been part of a heated debate for weeks among citizens.

“We needed our police; they've always been there for us,” one resident said.

"One of the things that thrills me about living in Madison Village is that I have a sense of security here; I feel protected,” another resident added.

Overtime, manning posts and scheduling issues forced council members to consider eliminating the department.

"The idea of trying to save money should not be offensive to anyone,” one council member said. "If we vote this down, tonight, three years from now, we're going to have this same conversation with the same group of people."

Council ultimately voted to keep its police department.
