An exclusive 5 On Your Side investigation is finding skyrocketing salaries for hospital chief executive officers across the country at the same time health care costs are increasing.
Our review of hospitals' salaries found a trend that is predicted to continue in the years ahead--hospital CEO's earning millions of dollar in compensation and lucrative bonuses.
It's also a trend that has impacted public, taxpayer supported hospitals.
Nationwide, watchdog groups are growing increasingly concerned.
"It's especially disturbing for taxpayers who are giving non-profit hospitals a tax break because they are expected to provide this charity care to the community and at the same time--the executive is making a million dollars a year," said Carmen Balber of the California-based Consumer Watchdog group.
