"He wasn't gaining weight and he was always just kind of sick and our pediatrician was trying various things and in February we came in and he had this nine-month check up and a few weeks later we brought him in and she pulled his gown up and she was like, 'his stomach didn't look like this at his nine-month check up.' She did a blood test and that afternoon we were here."
This is Wilson. He's just one year old.
We talked to Wilson's dad as part of a series we are working on with University Hospitals and Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Wilson was diagnosed in February with Juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia. As Wilson's dad Dylan pointed out, JMML is very rare, accounting for less than 1 percent of all childhood leukemias.
Throughout September, you’ll see stories, like Wilson's, on our Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as on newsnet5.com.
