A hunter was shot and killed in Ashtabula County Monday.
According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, it happened off of Horton Road in Monroe Township.
The call came in around 4 p.m. to the Ashtabula County Sheriff's Office, according to officials.
State Wildlife officers say the victim was a 62-year-old Randy Gozzard from St. Petersburg, Florida. He was in Monroe Township to hunt and officials say there were three other people in the hunting party.
Investigators are still piecing the scene together to try and figure out Gozzard was shot.
Monday marked the first day of deer-gun hunting season in Ohio. In order to stay safe, State Wildlife officers remind hunters to wear their hunter orange vests and hats at minimum, to make sure they're targeting what's beyond their target and to make sure they have permission to be where they're hunting.
