Two Cleveland police officers were injured in a crash on the city's east side late Tuesday night.

The crash happened on E. 138th Street and Miles Avenue around 11:53 p.m.

Investigators said a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling eastbound on Miles Avenue when it struck a cruiser.

A second vehicle traveling eastbound on Miles Avenue stopped to turn left at E. 138th Street when the Chevy Malibu drove to the right of the second vehicle and then went out of control when the driver tried to swerve back to the left lane in front of the vehicle.

The Chevy Malibu crossed over the centerline, rotating counter-clockwise, striking the zone car in the left side.

The cruiser was forced off the road, which caused it to hit a utility pole.

The driver jumped out of the wrecked white Chevy and fled the scene.

Police searched nearby neighborhoods, but no arrests have been made.

Two officers were taken to University Hospitals with minor injuries where they were later released.

The driver's side of the cruiser was crushed, windows shattered and the back bumper fell off.

Authorities closed off the area of the crash as the accident investigation unit worked at the scene.
