The city of Beachwood will soon be implementing body cameras into its police department.
The city announced Thursday that council approved legislation that includes the purchase of 15 advanced camera systems for police cruisers and 55 body camera units.
Beachwood officials say the police cruisers currently have dashboard cameras, but those are only forward facing. The new cameras will show a 360-degree view and will be in high definition.
According to city officials, Beachwood will also be one of the few police departments in the state that will stream live video back to dispatch.
The cameras will cost $208,961. The city says they are using funds that were seized or forfeited during criminal investigations to pay for the cameras, rather than taxpayer money.
