NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio — The Stay-A-While Cat Shelter in North Royalton is a cat lovers dream.
It's a cageless, no-kill shelter where cats are allowed to roam around and do just about whatever they want.
"The people who originally started this business wanted to have a free roaming facility, that was a passion of theirs," said Beth Pearce, the director of the shelter.
Stay-A-While has been taking in cats across Northeast Ohio for 38 years, but now they need the community's help.
"This floor needs repaired, this whole room floor needs repaired," said Pearce.
The building has some serious issues. The roof is crumbling, all the duct work is severely damaged and base boards are so rotten they're being held up by duct tape.
Pearce and the rest of the staff say it's time to relocate.
"For us to be able to continue in business we need a new building," she said. "We are trying to raise a million dollars in order to buy a new property to build the shelter on."
This North Royalton shelter is a non-profit and they strictly rely on donations from cat lovers, so for the next year they'll be fundraising to try and build a new home for all of their furry friends.
"It's a great service to the community of North Royalton and I'd like it to stay around at least another 38 years," said Pearce.
