WESTLAKE, Ohio — A 31-year-old woman with a concealed-carry permit was arrested earlier this month after she failed to notify police during a traffic stop that she had a gun in the car because she was busy on “FaceTime.”
The traffic stop happened around 8 p.m. Aug. 2 near Crocker and Detroit roads, according to Westlake police.
Authorities said they pulled the car over for a license plate violation.
The woman, who was a passenger in the car, was arrested for improper handling of a firearm, police said.
She eventually told police about the weapon and that she had a permit. The woman said the reason she didn’t mention it when officers first approached the vehicle was because she was using FaceTime on her iPhone, Westlake police said.
Under Ohio law, CCW permit holders must notify police immediately about a weapon if they are pulled over.
The driver, a 28-year-old, who was previously convicted on drug charges, was arrested for having weapons under disability, authorities said.
