CiCLEvia is coming to Cleveland.
Inspired by open-street events in Latin America, known as ciclovías, ciCLEvia will close a portion of West 25th Street to vehicle traffic between Wade Avenue and MetroHealth Drive.
Instead of cars on the normally busy four-lane road, people can stroll, bike or skate to activities along the mile-long route just south of I-90 to MetroHealth’s main campus entrance.
“Open street events like ciCLEvia give people an opportunity to move, play, socialize, and celebrate their communities, while encouraging them to experience streets as a shared public space that serves diverse users.” said ciCLEvia organizer Calley Mersmann in a statement.
The Aug. 13 date will kick off three such events on the same stretch of West 25th. CiCLEvia will also take place Saturday, September 10 and Saturday, Oct. 8 also from 3-7 p.m.
Family-oriented activities and health-focused initiatives will be highlighted along with music, games, food trucks, and free demonstrations such as yoga, Zumba, and boxing.
