Cleveland keeping Cavs championship celebration plans secret

Cavs trailing Warriors 3-2

A City of Cleveland spokesman said Tuesday city agencies are ready to host a possible celebration, if the Cavaliers win the NBA championship.

Cleveland fans had renewed hope following Monday’s upset win in Oakland. The Cavs now trail the Golden State Warriors 3-2 in the series.

A spokesman did not offer any specific details about a possible parade route, timing, or road closures, only saying, “The city will be prepared to host a celebration event if needed.”

NewsChannel 5 security expert Tim Dimoff said the city likely has a plan, but wants to keep it secret for security reasons.

"It doesn’t allow other people to do anything or try to plan something out in an aggressive way and also that helps the law enforcement,” Dimoff said. "If they want to secure that area, they only need to do it for a couple days, versus a couple weeks.”
