Train strikes suspect vehicle, police zone car

Police are investigating after a train struck a suspect’s vehicle and a police zone car in the midst of a police pursuit on Saturday, authorities said.

According to police, fourth district officers responded to the area of Miles and Broadway avenues for a man who told police he was shot at from a car.  

Police located and attempted to stop the suspect’s car. The suspect stopped the vehicle, got out and fled – leaving the car on the railroad tracks on Bessemer Avenue.

The officer stopped his zone car and pursued the suspect on foot, police said.

That’s when a train struck both the suspect vehicle and zone car.

The suspect has not been located as of Saturday afternoon, police said.

The victim was not injured in the shooting incident.
