Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty said on Wednesday, his office learned of an allegation that their Director of Finance and Operations Marvin Davies III asked an office employee who reported to him to make a personal purchase on his behalf.
After speaking with both men, McGinty said the office learned that on June 12, 2015, Dominic Sforzo bought a gas grill at the Sam's Club on Biddulph Road while making a routine office supplies purchase. Sforzo used a county credit card and delivered the grill to Davies' home later that day.
On June 29, 2015, Davies wrote a check reimbursing the county for the entire cost of the grill, which was $428.88, according to McGinty. Davies said that was the day he learned the purchase was charged to a county credit card.
"This transaction demonstrated extremely poor judgment by one of my senior managers, and I have accepted his resignation," McGinty said in a statement on Wednesday.
In addition, McGinty said he also asked Cuyahoga County Sheriff Clifford Pinkney to review the matter and State Auditor Dave Yost to conduct an audit and to handle any subsequent investigation if prosecution is warranted.
