Eyewitness to bank robbery says "It was like a movie"

Posted

An ordinary trip to the bank turned out to be anything but routine for one man.

"This looked just like a movie," said Mark Cox. Cox said he was the only customer inside the Huntington Bank on Mayfield Road Wednesday morning when it was robbed.

Two men walked into the bank wearing wigs. Cox said one man walked up to a teller.

"This guy was talking to the lady, cussing at her. He was saying hurry up, or I'll blow your brains out," Cox explained.

The other was standing by the door when Cox tried to run out of the door. "He told me don't do that, don't do that, I was about to run," said Cox.

Cox said when the two men ran out of the bank, the dye pack exploded. Witnesses he said picked up the money and returned it to the bank.

FBI Special Agent Vicki Anderson said agents are investigating nearly double the number of bank robberies compared to last year and there is a disturbing trend. She said bank robbers are no longer just passing a note.

"We're seeing a lot more armed robberies this year, they are up dramatically," said Anderson.

Reward money is available. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 216-522-1400.
