Five cars and police cruiser wreck in Richmond Heights, 3 sent to hospital

Posted

Five cars and a police cruiser were involved in a wreck Wednesday night, with three people being sent to the hospital.

Reporter Homa Bash learned the incident occurred at Richmond and Highland roads. Bash was told by police that an officer was driving down the road when a car swerved and almost hit the police cruiser head on.

Police reported the officer turned around and attempted to pull the car over, but as soon as he turned his lights on the suspect car took off.

The suspect car ran a red light, hit a white BMW in the intersection and caused a chain reaction crash, authorities said. The driver and passenger both got out of the car and tried to run away.

The suspect car did roll into the police cruiser, but the officer was not inside or hurt.

The passenger was caught by police, but the driver is still on the loose, police reported. Police are still searching for the suspect, who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

The suspect was described by police as a black man with long dreads, wore a white shirt and red shorts.

Police said weapons were found in the suspect car and charges are pending for the passenger. The passenger and two others were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
