Mamie Mitchell retires after serving for nine years as councilwoman of Ward 6

After serving for nine years as councilwoman of Ward 6, Mamie Mitchell announces her retirement.

Ward 6 encompasses the East Side neighborhoods of Fairfax, Larchmere, Little Italy, University Circle, Woodland Hills and parts of Buckeye-Shaker, Slavic Village and Union-Miles.

Mitchell was appointed in 2008 to replace former Councilwoman Pat Britt who became Clerk of Council. In 2009, she ran for re-election for a full-term.

Councilwoman Mitchell was a proponent of the Opportunity Corridor, a project that connected I-490 at E. 55th Street to University Circle.

Her replacement will be introduced at during the noon Committee of the Whole when it moves into caucus.
