Lakewood man crushed by granite slabs, killed

Posted

A Lakewood man was killed in a workplace accident Thursday, when granite slabs fell on top of him, trapping him underneath.

Police were called to US Marble and Granite in Westlake around 3:30 p.m. Employees who called 911 said the slabs had fallen and they weren't able to get the man out.

When officers arrived, the man, identified as 33-year-old Mitchel Williams, had already been freed but he suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the accident.

Williams was transported to St, John Medical Center and then airlifted to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A second employee was also struck by the slabs but did not require medical attention.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
