PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio — Parma Heights police are warning that a scammer is impersonating a sergeant in the department.
On Tuesday, a resident called police saying they received a call from a scammer who identified themselves as Detective Sergeant Greene.
According to authorities, the scammer told the victim they had an active warrant for their arrest and urged them to turn themselves in.
Detective Sergeant Greene is an employee of the police department, however, he did not make the call, police said.
The number that called the victim was 440-884-1234, which is the dispatch number to the department. According to police, if the scammer has to leave a voicemail, they will ask the victim to call back a different number.
Police said if anyone has received a call from Detective Sergeant Greene, but they are unsure if it's the scammer, hang up and call back dispatch.
