Euclid police are investigating a carjacking that led police on a brief chase after they said a man fired shots from a shotgun.

Police said the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. after the suspect fired at least one shot during a carjacking at a bar on Euclid Avenue. The owner of the car was not injured during the carjacking.

About an hour later officers on patrol spotted the stolen car at East 266th and Lakeshore Boulevard with the suspect behind the wheel.

When officers attempted to stop the car, the suspect tossed the shotgun out the window and took off down Lakeshore Boulevard. As officers pursued the suspect he attempted to cut through the parking lot of Shore Culture Centre when he crashed the stolen car into a tree.

Officers were able to arrest the man but he did suffer injuries during the crash and was transported to a hospital.

The shotgun was recovered from the ground in the middle of Lakeshore Boulevard near East 260th Street.
