A suspect, possibly a car dealership employee, is wanted for stealing a van off the Mercedes of Bedford lot and using it to steal clothes at the mall in North Olmsted.
On Thursday, a sales manager at Mercedes of Bedford reported that a white 2015 Mercedes Sprinter van was stolen the night before. The manager said there were no license plates on the van when it was taken off the dealership lot.
The manager told police on Feb. 24 an unknown person wearing all black clothing walked onto the lot and got inside the white Sprinter van. The person, who had a key to the van, drove off the lot going northbound on Broadway Avenue. Cameras from the dealership did not get a good picture of the suspect.
On Tuesday, police said the stolen van was used in a theft in North Olmsted, along with a stolen license plate from a lease turn in at Mercedes of Bedford. Police reported $15,000 in suits were stolen from Dillard's at Great Northern Mall.
The license plate on the van was expired, police said. Officers learned the owner who turned in the lease left the plate on the car.
Bedford police said on Facebook they believed the suspect who stole the van may work at one of the dealerships on the Bedford Auto Mile.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bedford Police Detective Bureau at 440-232-3408.
