The Multi-Agency Communication Center is a critical piece of the security plan for the Republican National Convention. It is a place where representatives from dozens of state, local and federal agencies will sit shoulder to shoulder, work together and share information.
Representatives from several law enforcement agencies gathered at the location on Tuesday to brief the media about security plans now that the RNC is just days away.
"There is no specific, credible, threat to the event," said Special Agent In Charge of the Cleveland FBI office. Thousands of law enforcement officers from dozens of different agencies are beginning to arrive in Cleveland for the RNC. Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said the department has more than enough help from officers from different agencies. "We're over the number we have anticipated and that we set for the city in the beginning," added Williams.
Williams said security planning for the event has been in the works for close to a year. There will be dozens of security cameras that will be monitored continuously. According to Williams, Cleveland Police Officers have the training and equipment needed for the event.
"Cleveland is prepared," said Williams.
Both Anthony and Williams stressed the importance of the public's role in RNC security, reminding people if you see something, say something. A hotline has been established for tips specifically for the RNC, that number is 1-800-225-5324 or 1-800-CALL-FBI.
