A man, who police later realized is a sex offender on parole, approached a Willoughby Hills police officer Wednesday, asking for a ride to Pennsylvania.
A Willoughby Hills police officer was in his car on Interstate 90 near mile marker 187 when he saw a man coming out of the woods, waving his arms.
The man, who originally gave authorities a fake name, said he was trying to get home to Pennsylvania and asked an officer to give him a ride as far as he could take him.

Once police found out the man's true identity—19-year-old Donnie James Bailey—he began to fight with officers and attempted to flee on foot, police said.
Officers took him into custody, where they realized he was wearing a GPS monitoring system on his ankle.
Authorities later learned he was a sex offender on parole through Cuyahoga County.
