Shaker Hts puppy gets new home with officer

Posted

An adorable puppy has a new *leash* (get it?) on life after "heartbreaking circumstances" forced his family to give him up.

Shaker Heights police say a desperate resident called the department Monday, asking if they would help find a new home for their puppy. The residents knew this wasn't a normal request but they wanted to make sure their puppy made it to a loving home, rather than falling into the wrong hands.

Officer Laura Clague responded and brought the pup back to the station after a tearful goodbye from the family.

While police were making calls trying to figure out what to do with the dog, another officer came in inquiring about the commotion.

As it turns out, the officer's family was already in the process of looking for a dog to add to their family.

The dog's original family agreed that giving the puppy to the officer was a great solution.

Now Officer Matt Dunn is a "proud new papa!"

A Facebook post from the police departmenton the adoption reads, in part:

Yes we get a lot of strange requests for help every day It can be amazing to see how much more than fight crime and conduct traffic enforcement that we do. We realize that doing our job isn't always going to make people happy, but we are happy to know people trust us. Thanks for trusting us to do the right thing.
