Some local gun shops are seeing an increase in people purchasing guns.
"Specifically, the handgun category, It has more than doubled," said Dave Holtz, General Manager of Point Blank Range and Gun Shop.
Holtz opened the Mentor store a little more than a year ago. "We see more guns sold to first-time people rather than people buying second and third firearms," added Holtz.
"Lots and lots of people," said Tony Rendi who along with his buddy Norm Galloway, visit the range very often.
"We see a lot of new people, " added Rendi. "My wife is in her mid-70s and decided to start shooting," said Galloway.
Mass shootings, the holiday season and potential new gun laws could be the reason for the increase in sales. "You add all of them together," said Holtz and that could explain the increase in the buying.
