CLEVELAND — Warrants has been issued for the arrest of a man and his mother who authorities say were housing a missing 16-year-old girl from Iowa.
Stephen Davis, 21, and his mother, Laurie Metot, 49, are charged with interference of custody, inducing panic and contributing to unruliness or delinquency, according to Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas records.
Davis has also been charged with the illegal manufacture of a controlled substance, drug trafficking and drug possession, court records state. Metot is facing additional charges of illegal manufacture a controlled substance, drug possession and permitting drug abuse.
The warrants were issued earlier this month, according to court records.
The two were arrested in January following a multi-state search for a missing Iowa teen who disappeared from her grandparents’ home. Authorities said the girl left a note telling her grandparents that she moved to California.
Authorities tracked the girl down at the residence where Davis and his mother were living.
Initially, Davis and Metot were charged with one count of interference with custody, but their cases were bound over to common pleas court, and they were indicted on additional charges.
The attorney representing Metot filed a motion Monday to be dismissed as her counsel, stating that “the defendant has failed to appear, communicate, and/or otherwise cooperate with counsel. Client’s conduct is rendering adequate representation impossible by causing an inequitable breakdown of the attorney-client relationship," according to court documents.
Last week, the same attorney, who is also representing Davis, was granted a similar motion in Davis’ case.
