A foot chase in Rocky River Saturday night led to a water rescue attempt, according to Rocky River police.
An officer said he saw a person he knew to be wanted in car parked outside of an apartment complex near the corner of Wooster Road and Malvern Road. When he approached the car, the man inside got out and the officer was able to confirm the identify of the man.
The man then fled on foot and a short chase ensued. The officer said he saw the man jump over a fence and then slide under a second fence which led to a cliff. At the bottom of the cliff is the Rocky River.
Officers searched the area for about 15 minutes. Fishermen near the Cleveland Metroparks Rocky River Reservation Emerald Necklace boat launch said they saw a man in the water. One fisherman and one officer attempted to rescue the man, but the water temperature and currents made it difficult for them to reach him.
The Rocky River, Lakewood and several regional fire departments and officers from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources all tried to find the man, but as of 2 a.m. Sunday morning they were unable to do so. The search resumed at 8 a.m.
