A 60-year-old woman was assaulted by a wrench-wielding attacker in a parking garage along Public Square Monday night.

The parking garage is attached to the Marriott Hotel and Key Bank Tower and is typically very busy - making the attack so surprising.

But little did this attacker know, he picked the wrong woman to mess with.

A few stitches on her forehead and a swollen lip are the only signs Michelle Hills-Doxey was attacked Monday.

At 8:30 p.m., Doxey, who works in Key Tower, was on her dinner break and reading in her car.

“Before I knew it, he came in that little space and was on top of me and the first thing he said was don’t scream,” said Doxey.

But she did. Once Doxey began screaming, her attacker hit her in the face several times with a wrench.

“I was kicking and punching and trying to gouge and everything I could think of,” she said. “He just kept telling me, 'stop screaming.'”

Her attacker didn’t ask for anything, but she knew in the confines of her car, he could have easily taken her life.

“I was determined,” she said. “I was not going to let this man take me down. It was like, he’s got a wrench, I can’t just let him beat me.”

Doxey bit, kicked and ultimately managed to fight off her attacker and run to a nearby elevator.

“If you’re not paying attention, or you’re alone, you have a higher rate of being a victim,” said security expert, Tim Dimoff.

Dimoff says Doxey was a target, because she was alone in the parking lot.

“Don’t let the element of surprise happen, I emphasize that so strongly, you got to start looking around constantly, so you don’t get in that situation,” he said.

Advice Doxey will gladly take.

“I probably will never go down there again like on my break or anything. I’ll go to an area where there’s more people, just to get out the office, but I wouldn’t go down there to sit in my car again,” she said.

Currently, police have no suspects in this case.
