PERKINS TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Perkins Township police acted fast to help two moms get their children out of a hot car Saturday afternoon.
The women were going shopping at a Walmart with their 2 and 3-year-old children. The women got out of the car and shut the doors, but mistakenly left the keys inside the car, police said.
The car had automatic locks, which left the children locked inside the car, according to police.
Officers responded to the scene, and due to the extreme heat, immediately busted the window out of the passenger side to free the children from the car, police said.
The two children were placed inside of an air-conditioned police cruiser to cool them down and EMT was called to the scene to check on the children, who were not harmed in the incident, according to police.
With heat indices in the 100s, freeing the children as quickly as possible was crucial to their well-being.
Heat kills. Don't write this off as "it is hot in summer". This kind of heat is deadly. Please be safe. #Cleveland #Weather pic.twitter.com/xAEoFJZVEx
