PD: Teen leaves OH youth center to keep necklace

Posted

A 14-year-old in a Claridon Township youth center ran off Tuesday because he wanted to keep a reportedly 1/2-inch plastic arrowhead necklace, according to the Geauga County Sheriff's Office.

Officers were contacted when the boy locked himself in a bathroom and refused to let staff remove his necklace from him, according to the Sheriff's office. Employees reportedly told officers they wanted to take away the necklace for "safety issues."

The juvenile was reported down by a river.

After deputies arrived at the center on 13300 Aquila Road, an officer asked the boy to come over. The boy came without hesitation, the sheriff's office reported.

When the officer spoke to the boy, he took the necklace out of his shoe and handed it over to staff, according to the sheriff's office.

The 14-year-old then went back inside the youth facility without further incident.
