LAKE COUNTY, Ohio — Residents have been getting outside since the pandemic started, and numbers from Lake Metroparks prove it as the park system sees an increase in trail activity during the last couple of months.
In March alone, the executive director said more than 313,000 people visited the park system. In April, that number climbed, surpassing 400,000.
The park managed to welcome visitors safely, by restricting parking in some areas and promoting social distancing.
As more areas open, additional safety precautions have been put in place, including the presence of lifeguards at the Fairport Lakefront Park.
Despite a high visitor turnout, the parks still had to cancel events during the health crisis. Lake Metroparks expects to lose another $450,000 over May and June.
