LAKE COUNTY — To get a car you need a job, but often to get to the job you need a car. That’s why Laketran is starting a new program to offer free buss passes for employers based in Lake County.
The new Transit GO program offers employers free bus passes that can be given to employees so they have a reliable ride to work.
“Transportation is everything. Without transportation, it’s difficult to live your life,” said Ben Capelle, CEO of Laketran. “The bulk of people that ride public transportation in Lake County and across the country are going to work.”
Job seekers can also take advantage of the new program, getting access to the passes throughout the hiring process.
“Connecting people and their jobs with transportation is probably the most important connection that transportation can provide,” Capelle said. “This gives them access to employees they wouldn’t have had access to before. This gives employees access to work that they might not be able to afford before.
The Transit GO program is funded through a $75,000 grant.
Employees don’t have to live in Lake County to receive access to the benefits, they just have to work in Lake County.
