Mentor Police say human trafficking warnings are rumors

Mentor Police say a warning about human traffickers circulating social media is false.

Officers say the reports claim that police are aware of the situation. However, police say they have not received any reports of human trafficking activity and do not know of any human traffickers operating in Mentor parking lots, as the post suggests.

The post circulating social media is as follows:

If you have teenage daughters please pass on. Mentor is having a problem with men watching in parking lots for girls to park and while they leave the parked car they put a flyer for work at home jobs. They have even gone so far as to follow them into stores. Please pass along. These are human traffickers. The Mentor police are aware and we are told they are illegal immigrants.

Police say they also checked with the head of security at the Great Lakes Mall, who also has nothing to report.

If anyone in Mentor has experienced any kind of activity they believe to be related to human trafficking, call police at 440-255-1234.
