PERRY, Ohio — Due to an increase in usage, students who vape at Perry High School in Lake County could be ticketed by a police officer the next time they use an e-cigarette on campus, according to a Facebook post by the district Thursday.
According to school officials, the district is working with the Perry Village Police Department to cut down on teen vaping at the schools.
The Facebook post states that “any student found possessing, using, purchasing or receiving an e-cigarette, vape or like product” could be fined $170 by the police for violating Ohio Revised Code 2151.87 — Prohibiting child from possessing, using, purchasing or receiving cigarettes or other tobacco or alternative nicotine products.
In addition to the fine, students caught vaping will face additional school consequences, the district said in the post.
