The Salvation Army bells are a call to help the less fortunate.

Every donation helps.

But the Elyria Salvation Army was $5,000 short of its Christmas fundraising goal until something mysterious and magical happened.

Someone started anonymously dropping gold coins into the red Christmas Kettles.

Ten gold coins in all.

With gold prices up, the Salvation Army hit the jackpot and their goal.

Jim Vandemark, owner of Vandemark Jewelers in Elyria said the half ounce gold coins are worth $540 each. The Elyria Salvation Army sold the coins to Vandemark for $5,400 dollars hitting their holiday goal of $90,000.

A spokesperson for the Salvation Army said they extend their heartfelt thanks to the anonymous donor.

And called the gift a blessing.
