An Elyria couple wants to know why their concrete stairs are missing and what's left is in a mess of rubble.
Vicki Helms and her husband went to Cincinnati, and when they got home they noticed something was missing.
"They took most of the concrete away, which made me think they thought they were doing a job,” Helms said.
Someone sawed and chipped away the concrete steps to their front porch, damaged bricks to the foundation,
and left saw cuts throughout their driveway.
When Helms told her husband, he had a hard time believing her at first.
"I said, 'someone stole part of our porch,' and he goes, 'you're crazy,' he goes, 'would you look again.' I said, 'no go out and look someone stole part of our porch,'” Helms said.
Helms called Elyria police, who showed up, shook their heads and filed a report.
But there was no way to solve the mystery.
Then, a contractor started working on a concrete porch right next door.
"I went up to them and asked them, 'did you guys happen to start over here, and got the wrong place, and took out my porch, and start sawing my driveway?' He goes, 'no, that wasn't me,'” Helms said.
The house right next door looks very similar to the Helms’ house, and so does the concrete porch where workers are removing stairs and part of the driveway.
Still, Helms can't prove it's them.
Exasperated, Helms just wants the person who did the damage to come forward and fix it.
“At first we didn't know, we figured somebody made a mistake, that they started on the wrong house, and they realized it and left. We were just hoping they would come back and tell us, and they didn’t,” Helms said.
The Helms got an estimate to fix the damage, which they said came in at $3,500.
