A stolen vehicle was recovered by police after a short pursuit through Avon Lake and police say it wasn't an isolated incident.

The vehicle was discovered after an Avon Lake officer initiated a traffic stop on Lake Road around 1 a.m. The driver fled and the officer called of the chase but Lorain Police were later able to locate the vehicle. The occupants abandoned the car on Kansas Avenue. Attempts to locate them were unsuccessful.

Investigation revealed that the abandoned vehicle belonged to an Avon Lake resident who lives on Brunswick Drive. When police contacted the homeowner, they learned the home was also burglarized.

Avon Lake police say a total of four cars have been stolen, in addition to several other cars that were broken in to. Three of the stolen vehicles have since been recovered.

Authorities say all vehicles were targets of opportunity, with keys or garage openers left in plain view.

Avon Lake police say it appears these incidents are related to similar reports out of Bay Village.
