Issue 35 would have cost the owner of a hundred thousand dollar house 42 dollars a year.

The 1.2 mill levy would have helped the Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services of Lorain County to expand services and create a detox program.

But, the levy lost by 12,000 votes.

Krista Taranto is a recovering heroin addict who said Wednesday the program saved her life and she’s no longer using.

She hopes Issue 35 eventually goes back on the ballot and voters give it a second chance.

“It would help a lot of other people who are suffering out there; I would like to see more people get help the way I did,” Taranto said.

More than 80 people have died from heroin overdoes in Lorain County this year.

The board will meet next week to talk about whether to try putting the levy back on the ballot in the future.
