Marriott International, Inc. is now speaking up about an incident at an Avon hotel last week in which a Muslim man was arrested after a 911 call alleged that he was in the lobby, pledging his allegiance to ISIS.
Police later said it was all a misunderstanding and the man never even mentioned ISIS.
Marriott released this statement to newsnet5.com on Monday regarding the incident:
We can confirm we had an incident last week that resulted with a gentleman who entered the hotel being apprehended and briefly detained by local authorities. This was a terrible misunderstanding and we deeply regret what happened to Mr. Al Menhali. Diversity and inclusion is a core principle of Marriott's operations and we remain committed to providing a welcoming environment. We will be reviewing diversity and inclusion training programs that are designed to help prevent this type of situ
