U.S. Steel may idle its Lorain plant after March 27 due to lack of orders, U.S.W. Local 1104 President Dennis Hamilton said Tuesday.
Hamilton said unless the customer order base increases, U.S. Steel plans to operate the plant until March 27 with no time frame regarding the length of idle period at this time. It would be a one-turn operation for this time period, he said.
In an email, spokeswoman Jessica Franklin told newsnet5.com U.S. Steel continues to "adjust operations at the facility to meet customer demand."
Hamilton added the idle may change, depending on any possible future customer orders.
