Church money meant for at-risk children stolen

Posted
An Elyria church pastor said nearly $1,000 in donations, meant for at-risk children, is now missing.

The theft happened sometime Sunday night into Monday at the Washington Avenue Christian Church. Someone broke in through a side window and stole a 10 gallon jug full of coins and bills. The jug was attached to a little red wagon. There’s a much smaller jar now in its place.

That money was meant for at-risk children at the Cleveland Christian Home.

“It’s our kids helping other kids and ironically, we’re trying to keep people from lives of crime and from criminal acts and from treating neighbors badly,” Pastor Janet Long said.

The church did not have surveillance cameras, but after Sunday’s crime, they are considering installing them.

If you have information that can help investigators, contact Elyria Police at (440) 323-3302.
