A woman overdosed Tuesday morning at Lorain County Recovery Court.

The felony drug court is run through the Lorain County Common Pleas Court, which is connected to the justice center on Court Street in Elyria.

The woman overdosed around 10:40 a.m., according to the Lorain County Sheriff's Office.

Three doses of naloxone were given to the woman before she was revived.

The woman regained consciousness and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Judge John Miraldi said in a statement to News 5:

Today, for the first time in the one and a half year history of our opiate recovery court, we had a participant experience an overdose. Until today, no participant in our recovery court had overdosed in our program. The fact that this participant overdosed in the courtroom was a particularly somber event.

The goal of the recovery court program is to address addiction through specific treatment plans for offenders.
