Sheriff: School threat blown out of proportion

Posted

The Portage County Sheriff's Office is assigning extra patrols to Rootstown High School Friday, even though they believe a threat allegedly made against the school has been blown out of proportion by social media.

A student allegedly made a statement that he was going to shoot up the school earlier this week, officials told newsnet5.com.

The sheriff's office has not filed any charges because they don't believe the accused student even made the statements.

Authorities said they believe the whole incident has been blown out of proportion by people on social media. However, they take every threat seriously and are continuing to investigate. In the meantime, extra police patrols will be at the school Friday.

One parent told newsnet5.com that she was upset with the school for not notifying parents.
